Sunday Hockey @ 30th July 2006

Sunday hockey, 30th July 2006.

It was a day when everyone wanted to stay home and sleep. Thanks to the nice drizzle the night before. It felt like I was on an island. Then at 8am sharp, the phone began to ring.. wakie-wakie!… My morning alarm clock Brian calls me. Man! I wanna sleep! Okie I did go back to sleep. And on the second call about 9am I decided to get my ass outta bed and suit up for hockey. And plus I kicked Lina in the head! Sorry babes!

Steve n me we reached the court, it looked gloomy. Nice to see some new faces coming for training. Nik, Destine, Little Shaun. Training began as usual but kinda slow at pace. Most of us were there but our minds weren’t. Thanks to the weather. Haha..

Improvement? Most definitely I must say. Most of us are working our butts off to bring this sport back to life and also the mission cup. No one knows what to expect from it and we have about 10 months to figure it out.

At about 11.40am, dark clouds covered the court and it started pouring. Shit and great at the same time. I was kinda pissed bout someone that I just couldn’t get my mind off it. So great for me la. Get to go home and fix my air-cond.

After lunch Herman the teams Handyman came over to fix my exploding air conditioner. It has been one week and it’s horrible to sleep without aircond. Thanks to him I have my gentings back again. Haha. Then Herman checked out my underground carpark and said why not we play here?

Great! I made a few calls to all the teammates and scheduled a try out at 9.30pm. Most of the world came, about 10 players. This was the first time we played with a puck in a long time. The surface is great (cement), with lightings; the area where we played is cordoned off which does not permit any cars around. Safety first, man. Some guards dropped by to watch and the Security Manager was happy to see us using the place doing something healthy. He even encouraged us to come more often.

So people, this will be a new venue for us if it rains k. Trust me! It’s great. Don’t forget, mission cup we will be playing with puck k.

So keep this address to my apartment:
Mayfair Apartment,
Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas.
Basement 2 parking.

Thanks to Lina also for introducing one of her customers who owns a large sports shop in Sunway and also manufactures Nike stuff. Hopefully we get sponsored. There fore I need your jersey numbers asap.

So see ya tomorrow nite at Taman Mega.

Craig.

Pics! Sns Hockey Fest Part 1

16th July 2006

The day started with 11 players at the court. The gang that joined the fun was Azlan, Izwan, Bryan, Peter, Steve, Olivia, Ed, Anuar, Herman, Mike and myself.

When we arrived, the court on the 2nd tier didn’t have any fencing.. what the hell? What the hell is going on? Not to worry there was the lower tier court available. I think they were doing some minor renovations to the fencing and repainting the poles after seeing that the court is being used again and coming back to life.

We begun with the drills I printed out courtesy of Ed. Thanks dude. It was kinda tough for most of us but I felt that it helped improve our skills tremendously. From simple foot work like forward, backward power slides to transitions to ball handling and lastly stick work together with shots.

As usual the sun was kind to us but some how I look more and more Indian. Sun block my foot. Haha. Well we didn’t have much pictures because we didn’t have anyone to take our pictures..

Then after a hot day of workout we head to the same makan place called Syed Abu. And went home. It wasn’t over. After lunch Azlan suggested to play again at night. OMG! Wat ta fuk! Ok. Since everyone semangat gila babi.. why not.

At 8.30pm everyone arrived. Tired as hell. What a crazy bunch of dogs. But joining us was Tarry Izenberg, Lina & Eric. This time, no training or drills… straight to game time.. Nice to see the guys n girls going playing their legs off. All after the fun, we head to the same place we always do.. Syed Abu. Maybe mr. Abu should sponsor us when the tournament comes. Haha..

Well starting from this coming Tuesday, July 18, 2006 there will be a collection of RM5 from each player this is to fund the jerseys/ /transportation to Singapore for the tournament. For more info pls call Ramesh at 012-6865683.

My special prayers go out to Steven who wont be joining us for a while because of his mom’s health. Stay strong dude.

Anyways gtg now.. see ya all tomorrow nite. Cheers n sleep tight KL.

Lastnite's Hockey....

It was a blast. more New players joined the group. A lot were falling down and having a crazy fun time. Welcome CJ, Andy, Alex n Andrew. Hope ya guys had fun. Wheels were are dead. Sticks were loosing weight. Players were getting still having fun. i guess this sport brings a smile to faces. Great to see players of all ages, locations gathering at one spot playing their guts out.

No one hurt today, thank god. One our poor shitty wheels. I lost 3 wheels today! Shit man. Think we need to start carving rocks and stones and to use them as wheels. haha.

So its confirmed. We will practice every sunday for the Mission Cup in Singapore. Ramesh came up with this idea of collecting RM5 per week from all players. The Mission Cup will be in Singapore sometime in May. This collection will be used for transportation/ hotel/ jerseys for the team. Olivia will be in charged of the financial aspect. we feels ladies are better in keeping money. haha.

Right now we have about 16 players only. Anyway we are not hoping to win anything, just to have a good time and to bring back the sport. the rough 16players we hope will play for us is Craig, Steven, Ramesh, Brandon, Steve, Nick, Herman, Peter, Olivia, Mike, Khairo, Izwan, Anwar, Madhazir, Kevin, Azlan.... Anyone interested kindly write in the comments section of this blog. we need committed players not super stars k. don’t forget no man is an island... pls watch the movie mighty ducks to understand wat a team sport is like..

Back to todays session. We have alot of dedication n heart from a lot of players who are regular and we see alot of improvements coming from ya all. Nick, Mike, Olivia, Steve, Madharis, Anwar and Herman. Keep up the good job. don't worry bout the falling down. remember no fall no balls (only aplies for the guys k).

So this Saturday we will be having a SNS HOCKEY FEST from 8.30pm onwards at the court. Be there k. cos we will be doing a demo game for the rest of the recreational skaters and probably a clinic. well i am dead tired right now. some more have to wake up later for the world cup semi finals. Die wei.

all in good fun,
lilpixie
Started about 9pm. More than 20 players arrived at the court. Lights were switched, goal post was placed. All players from near and far arrived. From KL, Shah Alam, Damansara, Hartamas, Sunway, PJ were once again united. It was like a high school reunion I must say.

The night started out with lap warm ups and stretching. Been years since I’ve seen some of these players finally come together as 1 team. We then played a non-stop 5 on 5 with 4 teams changing after every goal. To us it was great fun.

Some were exhausted and rusty after not playing for years. The regular new group, guys and girls who practice with us were also there. If fun isn’t the word to describe today it would be a freakin’ party.

So lets keep the ball rolling, wheels spinning and ass falling up.

Inline hockey in Malaysia is here to stay. See ya this Sunday n next Tuesday! Mission Cup here we come! But with 2 mins line change.. Haha!

Skate smart. Use protective gear!
It was a sport that touched many of our lives about 10 years ago in Malaysia when it all started and died about 6 years ago due to politics and managers taking over the game instead of players having fun. Those who were there at the arena PJ would know it. Then Skateline came along a year ago which me, Craig and Ramesh found out only in December and thought to give it a shot. Well we became instructors after going through some examination some sort like driving test.

Then there was a forum on the skateline website which has a forum on in-line hockey in Malaysia. Hmmm… we thought what the hell?... give it a shot. There were a lot of people writing on the forum day in and day out so we decided to pop by. Guess what? 3 players only. Oh my god! What a joke. But I guess a lot of dedication and commitment got more and more people interested and involved. Thanks to the players who helped build this sport back.

Later after the hockey players grew larger from 3 to 6 to 9 to 14, that’s when Tuesday night hockey came along. Suggested by Izwan. The one who lives in that neighborhood that knows the light switches. Haha! On the 27th April 2006, it was the first time we played on Tuesday with lights on and a large space to play. Was like the good old days.

The place we play is near Atria shopping complex, if you know where the Projet Petrol Station, pass it you’ll come to a traffic light. Turn left and on the 1st junction you will see a 2 tier tennis court with high fencing. That’s our playground people.

We play on Sunday mornings from 9.30am to 12noon and Tuesday nights from 9pm to 11pm.

Well let’s keep our wheels rolling and our sticks slashing and together who knows? Things may happen. As for most of us, mission complete.. Bringing back the DEAD!
